WHAT TO DO IF YOU’RE IN FOMO!

FOMO

If you’re feeling that time is not on your side, then perhaps it’s worth taking a closer look at how Social Media is dictating your day.
What once started as a great way to keep in touch and share stuff with friends and family has now grown into the monster of FOMO.
And if you’re not familiar with it, it’s Fear Of Missing Out.
We’re a 24/7 connected world with mobile devices always on, which can lead to an almost OCD effect of seeing what’s come in.
The Mail Online reported (DEC'19) that the average person checks their phone 110 times a DAY (and up to every 6 seconds in the evening)!
But for what… looking for acceptance from people you don’t know and will probably never meet?
And then what happens when you get no likes or comments on your posts, rejection soon creeps in.
Of course, we all want to feel wanted, accepted and to matter it’s part of our human makeup – but why waste time and energy on a virtual world that
One of the reasons so many have created the negative habit of checking their device so often is the perpetual trap of missing something.
Missing a great post, missing some ‘exclusive’ news one of your ‘friends’ shared and you don’t want to be the last to know.
If you feel stressed and anxious about social networking then you can do something about it.
Creating space from the situation allows you to see things as they really are.
Ask yourself, what would really happen if I didn’t check my social media for an hour or 2?
So what to do with yourself if you’re not on social media?
If you think you’ll be bereft or at a loose end then create yourself an hour of empowerment.
Make a conscious decision to do something different.
Take a walk, read a book, practice some slow, gentle breathing or something else… whatever it is turn off your phone/device.
So after the hour, what really happened, what did you miss?
Probably nothing of great importance, after all the world didn’t end did it?
But what did happen is your ability to slowly break the habit of being stuck in the social media trap.
Control your FOMO and start enjoying the true wonders of life.
