Looking for a better natural protein here's what you need to know about Hemp seeds, Hearts and Protein...
When it comes to eating a healthy diet, most people think that eating more chicken and fish is the best choice. Even though these foods are fairly healthy, they still contain a lot more fat than vegetable protein. There is also a lot of concern nowadays on how food companies are genetically modifying farmed animals to produce more food in a shorter amount of time. Many people don’t realize how harmful GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) may be to our bodies and that the safety of eating these foods has not been proven. Many countries have in fact banned the use of GMO foods, although it is still legal in the US and Canada. In this blog post, I will discuss a great non-GMO alternative to eating animal protein, which is hemp!

Here are some reasons on why eating hemp is so good for you:
1. High in protein, low in calories: Hemp has an amino acid profile comparable to other sources of protein such as meat, milk, eggs, and soy with much less cholesterol, fat, and calories than these foods. It is also a much more complete protein than other vegetable protein sources.
2. The ideal ratio of Omega-6 to Omega-3 fats: Typical Western diets are lacking in Omega-3 fats, which in turn, contributes to inflammatory diseases such as heart disease, diabetes, asthma and so on. Hemp seeds have a 3:1 ratio of Omega-6: Omega-3 fats, which is even better than the recommended 4:1 ratio. Eating more hemp products can help to balance this ratio and thus reduce inflammation in the body.
3. Mineral-rich: Hemp seed is high in minerals such as phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, sulfur, and calcium, which can help to support better health. There is evidence though, that some hemp seeds can have too high of mineral content, so it’s important to choose hemp that is grown from a reliable source.
4. High in fiber: Typical Western diets are also lacking in fiber. Hemp seeds have a high percentage of fiber content, which can help to prevent constipation, lower cholesterol levels, control blood sugar and achieve a healthy weight.
Hemp is also high in antioxidants, although I have excluded this from the list of its health benefits because of inconclusive scientific evidence that antioxidants are actually good for your health.
There are scientific studies to support the implicated health benefits of eating hemp. There is evidence that it can beneficially influence heart disease, prevent and treat hypertension, and prevent fatigue. Despite how long hemp has been around for, there is actually relatively little research in the area. This is because of the legal issues around the use of hemp foods. There is also the possibility of testing positive for marijuana from eating hemp products, which may discourage a lot of people in certain professions from incorporating it into their diet. Hopefully, with more research in this area, there will be more acceptance of using hemp as a health food, and less stigma towards its connection with marijuana.
I have been incorporating hemp seed, oil, and protein powder in my regular diet for just over a year now. I believe all three of these forms of eating hemp are beneficial, though I did find in my research that most studies were done only on hemp seeds. Nonetheless, I absolutely love the way I feel after having any form of it alone (chocolate shake) or added to my vegetable smoothies. It makes me feel nourished, keeps me full for hours, makes my system regular and has made my waistline smaller than ever. I truly believe hemp is nature’s perfect protein and encourage everyone to consider incorporating it into their diet as well.
